Kosovo: International cooperation with the metal- and plastic industry

Kosovo as a location for procurement and investment is comparatively unknown to German companies. The geographical proximity, legal security through EU association agreements, Europe's youngest population on average and favourable wage and labour costs, however, make the location interesting for German companies.

However, one of the country's core problems, apart from deficits in the area of international competitiveness, is insufficient experience in opening up new foreign markets and the country's negative external image. The aim of the GIZ project "Jobs through export promotion in Kosovo" (CETEP) is therefore to support the underdeveloped export economy by establishing and expanding international business contacts and at the same time to take measures to improve the country's reputation. The project starts precisely here and concentrates on strengthening export activities in the manufacturing sector as well as on business-related services and cross-sectional technologies, such as the ICT sector.

Kosovo offers efficient companies in the metal and plastics processing industries. The focus of the metal sector in Kosovo is on metal processing (precision turning, milling, forming technology, bending, cutting, metal constructions, screwing technologies, drilling technologies, etc.). In addition, there are some interesting companies from the field of plastics processing in Kosovo.

We therefore organised a "Business Tour Kosovo" on 23 and 24 September 2019 to Pristina (Kosovo) and offered the opportunity learn about the potentials in the field of metal industry and plastics processing in Kosovo. The tour was also supported by the BME (Federal Association for Materials Management and Purchasing) and very successfully enabled German companies to introduce their company to partners from Kosovo and to establish contacts to competent companies of the metal industry and plastics processing from Kosovo. More than 50 match-making contacts were initiated, and several business contracts are to follow.
