The Gambia: Construction of student’s dormitories at the Gambian Technical Training Institute (GTTI) annexes

Within the framework of the Gambia Pilot Program (GPP), student dormitories will be provided to the Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI). The GTTI is one of the main providers of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in The Gambia.

The main campus is located near the capital in the Greater Banjul Area (GBA), and it operates two annexes, one in Mansa Konko, Lower River Region (LRR), the other in Julangel, Upper River Region (URR). The institute hosts up to 2,800 students in total (1,800 on the main Campus, 1,000 in Mansa Konko and Julangel) and offers technical education leading to diplomas in various trades such as business management, community development, ICT, construction, engineering, welding and fabrication, plumbing and gas installation, refrigeration, solar installation and maintenance.

GPP funding is supporting the two annexes by providing dormitories to accommodate students from remote areas without access to schooling and further education.

The 2-storey student dormitories at the Mansa Konko annex are currently under construction. The design envisages two dormitory buildings with rooms for 80 students including sanitary and recreational areas. A kitchen and canteen as well as a laundry facility will be provided in separate buildings. Further dormitories for 40 students are planned to be constructed at the GTTI Annex in Julangel. The design of the building also includes a canteen and kitchen area.
