The Gambia: Start of a new project on employment promotion
In December 2021, PEM CONSULT started its activities, providing “Support to PME Advisory Centres in The Gambia regarding Employment Promotion, Career Guidance and Capacity Development”.
The project is part of GIZ’s global project “Migration for Development Programme” (PME) and will closely cooperate with its national partner, the Ministry for Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE).
The project’s objective is to support the labour market reintegration of returning migrants as well as the creation of prospects for economic and social participation of the local population in The Gambia. PEM CONSULT’s intervention aims to contribute to this objective by:
- Providing support to the PME Reintegration and Career Guidance Services and implementing pilot employment promotion measures.
- Providing capacity development for the National Partner of GIZ PME in the implementation of the National Employment Strategy, Job Fairs and the effective coordination of local actors in the field of employment promotion.
- Providing support to various TVET institutions and career guidance services to expand the training offers of the Advisory Centre.
Potential returnees often do not know what kind of support options exist for a return and how they can subsequently regain their footing. In order to provide them with comprehensive advice and support, it is an additional aim of the project to develop contributions to the website startfinder.de.
In the course of the project’s start-up activities, for better alignment with existing projects and the identification of potential for synergies, a planning workshop was conducted on 24/01/2022 with institutional stakeholders, experts, GIZ and PEM Consult.
