The project aims to provide adequate and practical training for state vocational training school teachers and private sector training staff in accordance with the new quality standards of the Egyptian education reform.

The Egyptian economy suffers from a lack of well-trained skilled workers, whereas a great number of Egyptian youth remain unemployed. Due to the high population growth, about 850,000 young people enter the labour market every year. The main cause of this issue is the insufficient extent of professional education at state-run vocational institutions. As a result, the graduates don’t have enough professional skills needed in the private sector and are, therefore, not hired in their field of expertise.

The Egyptian government has recognised the need for a comprehensive transformation of the vocational education and training sector and launched the "Technical Education 2.0" reform. The aim is to improve the quality, effectiveness and reputation of vocational education and training, which is intended to improve the institutional and personnel conditions for sustainable and employment-generating economic growth in Egypt. To this end, three already existing centres of excellence – incl. ones in Hurghada and Aswan - are being expanded with a modern training centre, in which the Technical Vocational Education Teachers Academy (TVETA) can conduct advanced training courses. The project finances the design, construction and furnishing of the training centres. The design of the training centres will be based on modern didactic and educational standards for dual vocational training. In addition, financial incentives will be created for the further training of teachers and trainers.
