East meets West – FC implementation partners from The Gambia & Rwanda met in Kigali
In an effort to promote experiential learning, a delegation from the Gambian Agency for the Management of Public Works (GAMWORKS) visited Rwanda for a study tour from 10th-14th of October 2022.
GAMWORKS is currently implementing the KfW-financed “The Gambia Pilot Program” (GPP), which is part of the “Regional Stabilisation and Development Fund for Financial Cooperation in ECOWAS Member States”.
The Gambia was selected as a pilot country for the project as early as 2019, with the aim of stabilising the still very young democracy by promoting the value chains of horticulture, poultry and fishing and creating employment and income opportunities, especially for The Gambian youth and vulnerable groups. KfW has committed EUR 10 million on behalf of the BMZ for investments from basic rural infrastructure towards processing and marketing facilities along the value chains and, furthermore, investments into vocational schools in three target regions of The Gambia. Funding of infrastructure for private sector beneficiaries is designed and managed in the form of a matching grant.
Given the similarity in investment measures such as upgrading, extension and construction of vocational training facilities incl. dormitories and agricultural workshops, the delegation headed by GAMWORKS Director General Omar Gaye had the opportunity to exchange and learn from the two ongoing FC-financed Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Phases II & III in Rwanda.
The schedule included visits to various newly renovated and extended TVET institutes in Gacuriro, Janja, Nyundo and Nyagahanga under Phase II, as well as to the Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) as PEA for the TVET Programme, the KfW Country Office, Kigali Genocide Memorial, and Kivu Lake.
PEM CONSULT, as Implementation Consultant for the project in The Gambia and implementing partner of the project led by CES GmbH in Rwanda accompanied the visitors, initiated and moderated various technical presentations and workshops.
