The Integrated Environmental Management Programme, together with Algerian environmental stakeholders, implemented strategies and measures for reducing and preventing environmental pollution.

The GIZ-run programme received the support of national and international consultants provided by PEM CONSULT. The missions covered the implementation of certain technical aspects of the four foreseen components. PEM CONSULT provided consulting services to the Ministry of Environment of Algeria, its government and civil organisations dedicated to the proper planning and implementation of effective environmental management through the following work packages:

•   Environmental Information System
•   Promotion of waste management
•   Private sector environmental management
•   Environmental communication

The project was based in Algiers with missions to project sites in Annaba and  in the Wilayas of Staoueli, Djelfa, Ghardaia and Tlemcen.
