The Private Sector Development Programme (PSDP) supported the development of the Palestinian SME sector in order to generate income and employment opportunities. This was done by improving the framework conditions, by providing services for business development and by strengthening the private sector organisations.
The programme comprised 3 components to which PEM CONSULT contributed with specific expertise:
- Local Economic Development, which supported chambers and business associations as well as Local Government in selected locations (initially: Bethlehem and South Hebron) to jointly analyse the situation of the community and to cooperate in improving the business environment, planning and services for business growth, and to develop action initiatives for the economic development of the location;
- Domestic market-oriented Business Promotion, which supported the capacity development of national private sector organisations (PFI, FCCIA, SEC, etc.) to advocate policies and to provide relevant services. It also focuses on selected sub-sectors or value chains to upgrade businesses and to support sector growth;
- Export Promotion that aimed at improving the export opportunities of Palestinian MSME by strengthening export-related service offers of Palestinian institutions, especially in the fields of consultancy, market information and quality infrastructure.
