The aim of the GIZ Regional programme in the MENA-countries Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco was: “Improvement of the conditions for integrating women into employment and economic activity“.
The programme started in spring 2011 and not only faced the unfavourable conditions for economic integration of women in the selected Arab countries but also the opportunities and challenges arising with the “Arab Spring” or “Arab Revolutions” (al-Thurat al-Arabiyy). The intention of the programme was to bring more women of diverse socio-economic backgrounds according to economic needs and / or following their individual interests and capacities into decent work positions, well paid and appreciated by the surrounding society.
Component 3 (Women‘s Economic Empowerment through Gender-Sensitive Value Chain) was supported by PEM CONSULT and Mesopartner. The intended impacts of our GSVC activities comprised:
- Capacity Development for NGOs and trainers: How to upgrade value chains using a more inclusive approach.
- Jointly implemented projects: Helping female business owners, managers, farmers or workers to adopt new and improved roles in the value chain. / To enable female-managed companies or those who mainly employ women to improve their products, to develop new markets, and to hire more women (“smart economics”).
